The History of the Church of Christ in Moline
The church of Christ in Moline, Illinois has a very proud history that began
with a few Christians in the late 1940’s. The work of the church of Christ
in this area began with the securing of a meeting place on December of 1946
in the CIO Hall at 1034 15th Avenue of East Moline. The attendance began at
around 15 persons with services at 11:30 on Sunday mornings. The members of
that day only met there until July of 1947, because the local tavern next door
citing that “having a church meet next door is a bad influence on us” forced
them out. The church survived by meeting in home settings for the next few
years until money could be raised to put towards the building at our present
day location. The church at this location began assembling in July of 1952
from a base of 15 members. Since then, many people have come and gone, passed
on from this life, and have been blessed by being a part of the church at this
location. Presently, the church employs two full time ministers, has around
150 members, and some of the faithful people who came to the church here in
the 1950’s are still around on Sundays and Wednesdays. We thank God for
the blessing of the church of Christ in Moline and hope that you will want
to be a part of our proud history and our vision for the future.
